DeArmond.net: New and Improved

Welcome to the new-and-improved DeArmond.net.

Perhaps, at first glance, you don't see much difference... well, that was part of my goal. The look and feel of the site really hasn't changed much.

There are a few new pages, but the most important new feature that I have added is an expanded photo gallery. I have organized my photography into galleries (and galleries within galleries) so that you can view slideshows of selective subsets of my photography. Also, you'll notice that not every photo has a narrative. I'm glad to have the opportunity to add large collections of photos without having to write an extensive narrative for each one. For example, I added a gallery for our 2005 vacation to Victoria, Canada. That gallery has 82 images. Perhaps, some time in the future, I'll choose to write about one of them, in which case, it'll be published on the home page. Until then, it'll remain only in the gallery.

My hope is that this platform will allow me to easily continue to write interesting stories and post interesting photography. In addition, I hope to add useful features to this site as my time and inclination allows.

One difference you may have already noticed is that my images don't appear in the RSS feeds anymore. This is not necessarily intentional; it just happens to be the way that the software works and I haven't found a way around it yet. I'm still looking for a solution but, if you happen to like it better this way, let me know.

As always, subscribe to my RSS feed and post comments.

And click something, will ya? I'm payin' for this stuff.

Construction Notice

Within the next week or so, this site will undergo a significant upgrade.

Since its inception, DeArmond.net has been operating via the blog software WordPress. While WordPress has been an excellent development platform for my site, I have aspirations that go beyond its capabilities.

Over the past six months, I have been working with another Content Management System (CMS) called Drupal. I believe that Drupal has what I'm want for now and the proper environment for me to grow in the future.

All of my previous posts have been copied over so that neither my content nor your comments will be lost. However, the URLs for all of the content will change. This means that if you have linked to any page or post other than my home page, you will have to relink. Also, my RSS feed address will change, so if you have subscribed to my RSS feed, you'll have to resubscribe. Here's the new URL (it doesn't work yet, of course):
http://dearmond.net/rss.xml

Another thing you may notice: I will drop the "www" at the beginning of my web address. If you try it with the "www", it'll work, but it'll redirect you to a url without.

After I make the switch, I will post another announcement describing in more detail some of the improvements I've made.
